When Matthew was 18 years old, he went to a music shop to buy himself a guitar.
One of the employees there was 19 year old Carla. She and Matthew began talking about guitars and then about music and finally politics. And Matthew forgot about buying a guitar, because he was mesmerized by her beauty.
Carla’s grandmother owned the music shop, so Matthew returned there several times to see Carla. The grandmother liked him and decided to offer him a job. Matthew refused. “I want to date Carla instead.” he said. Carla happily agreed.
For the next four years, they were a constant couple, doing everything together. Matthew’s family loved Carla too.
Then one day, Carla’s grandmother suddenly had a heart attack and died! It was the day before Matthew’s 22nd birthday, but he went and spent the whole next day consoling Carla with no thought of his own birthday.
Carla had told Matthew of her being orphaned at age 12 and then her grandmother raised her in her teens. “Now she is gone and I am alone!”
Matthew said, “As long as I live, you will never be alone. I, and the rest of my family, will love you forever.”
At that moment, Carla knew she would marry Matthew. And the next year, that’s what happened.
A year after they were married, Carla gave birth to a daughter, who she named Diana…..after her grandmother.
